Let My Laughter Resound!

INTRODUCTION

Notes the missionary/evangelist/writer, E, Stanley Jones; “There are three levels of laughter: the lowest level, the one who laughs only at his own jokes; a little higher, the one who laughs at the jokes of others; third, the one who can laugh at himself. I would add as the highest, the one who laughs at the rhythm of things – a constitutionally happy laugh.”

One of E. Stanley Jones’ popular statements is this: “There is more unalloyed joy in being a Christian to the square inch than there is to the square mile outside of him.”

A well-known writer, Elton Trueblood, once wrote a book entitled ‘The Humor of Christ’. There are statements (and parables) from the lips of Christ that, when they were heard for the first time, must have brought either a smile or an outright laugh from the hearers of Christ. We have read many words (first spoken by Christ) so many times that we fail to appreciate the humor in some of Christ’s words.

Here is one (of many) statements that must have caused a reaction of laughter among Christ’s listeners: “You strain at gnats while you swallow camels!” A vivid description of the hypocritical actions of some religious leaders!
