MAINTAINING A ‘SOLID WITNESS’ AMIDST A CHAOTIC WORLD!
Amidst the changing circumstances of life (good and bad circumstances), the Spirit desires to impart certain ‘fruits’ into the life of every believer. Love, joy, peace, patience and several other ‘fruits’ are given to the believer (who humbly seeks these qualities). After the Spirit initially imparts these wonderful ‘fruits’ to a believer, the Spirit intends to develop these fruits (godly traits) in the life of a believer, throughout the remainder of his life.
These fruits (godly traits) are meant to be lasting in the life of a believer – that is, these fruits are ‘steadfast’ and ‘enduring’ in the life of a believer. This is to say, that when a believer faces chaos in his environment (home, school, office), this Spirit-controlled believer is able to ‘hold steady’ in that chaotic environment, and, in face of this difficult situation, to manifest a ‘kind of peace and serenity and calmness’ among the persons who are ‘at each other’s throats’!
This does not mean that the ‘peace-filled’ believer will never engage in discussions or in debates or in conflicts (in his chaotic environment) – for he has emotions and interests like anyone else. But, nevertheless, the Spirit-controlled (peace-filled) man will allow the ‘peace of God’ (goodwill and desire for unity and reconciliation) to be visibly manifested and demonstrated!
The ‘fruit of the Spirit’ provides the ‘foundation’ for the very life of the believer. While the world around one is moving (unstable) and is unpredictable and is volatile (explosive), the life of the Spirit-filled man has a ‘foundation’ (the indwelt love of God) – and this helps provide stability for a world that so easily can ‘come apart at the seams’!
It is the indwelling Holy Spirit who provides stability to a believer, who lives in a very unstable (unpredictable) world. “When all around my world gives way, He then is all my hope and stay!” “On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand!”
The Christian can be ‘positive’ in the midst of a world that is ‘negative’ and ‘cynical’, because he believes in the resurrection (of Christ). He believes that life is stronger than death, that truth is stronger than lies, that joy is stronger than tragedy, that faith is stronger than doubt, that God is stronger than Satan. The Christian believes that, in spite of the evil purposes of the devil, the redemptive purpose of Christ is stronger than the evil purposes of Satan.
The Christian believes that ‘though wrong is so strong, God is the Ruler yet!’ The Christian believes that ‘where sin abounds, grace super abounds’! The Christian believes that, although this wonderful physical body will finally perish and turn to ‘dust’, there is a glorious future where God’s children shall dwell eternally and where they shall be granted a never-perishing celestial body.
The Christian believes that, regardless of the kind or the intensity of human adversity that he must endure on earth, God is able powerfully to ‘use’ that adversity to further develop his ‘godly character’, to better prepare him for his final home of joy in heaven!
